Gerrard is out, who is to replace him?
Aston Villa last night sacked Steven Gerrard and is already looking to the next step. The English club is ready to make a major investment in a new coach and has targeted two big names: Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel.
Ronaldo in the storm
CR7 has been left out of the squad for the game against Chelsea and must train on his own, after his outburst against Tottenham and his hasty departure from Old Trafford. It's all over the press this morning and it's clear that the war is raging between the five-time Ballon d'Or winner and Erik Tenhag, who is supported by his club and especially by the press. The Daily Mirror has a scathing "ban" on its cover. For the Daily Star, "Ronaldo will pay a heavy price for Tottenham's tantrum" with a £1m fine (almost €1.2m). For The Guardian, "Ronaldo is out in the cold as stormy relations emerge between CR7 and Ten Hag."
The Portuguese tried to make his mea culpa in a long statement published on his Instagram page: “Right now, I just feel that I have to keep working hard in Carrington, support my teammates and be ready for everything in any given game. Giving in to the pressure is not an option. It never was. This is Manchester United, and united we must stand. Soon we’ll be together again”, he wrote. Enough to calm the fan’s anger? Probably not.
How about the Blues?
The battle for the goalkeeper position
Kepa’s back in form as Edouard Mendy doesn’t seem to improve. The Senegalese could leave Chelsea if he doesn’t have minutes on the pitch - a difficult situation for him. Nonetheless, Graham Potter is encouraging the competition between the two goalkeepers: “It's good that we have competition in this position, we need the players to push each other because that's how they improve", he said in a press conference this Thursday.
Is a new striker on the radar?
It is Victor Osimhen. According to many sources, Blues coach Graham Potter is keen to have Napoli's Nigerian centre-forward in his squad. Osimhen, who scored 18 goals in 32 games in all competitions for Napoli last season, has also been linked with Arsenal, Manchester United and Bayern Munich.
