Hangover for the Blues
The travel to Zagreb looked like a trap and was one. The Blues confirmed yesterday a difficult start of the season. Thomas Tuchel couldn’t hide his angriness after the game: "Of course, I'm angry with myself, I'm angry with our performance. It's a huge underperformance from all of us. We lacked precision, we were not clinical, not aggressive enough on the ball, we lacked determination, and it's not enough individually and collectively. And that's why we lost this game today (yesterday)," he said, before explaining why he feels so bad about it personally.
"Because I didn't see it coming. I wasn't in the right film. I didn't see it coming. I think the last game (2-1 win over West Ham) helped us. I think we showed a reaction in a very difficult moment against West Ham. We showed a reaction and we got a result. We were lucky in the moments when you need it a bit. We had good training sessions, I thought the team was ready. I thought we knew what to expect. But I didn't see it coming, that's why I'm angry with myself."
With so many new players, the Blues need to rebuild their game and gain confidence. The season is only beginning!
European press acclaims Mbappé
Kylian Mbappé's impressive performance was praised by the Italian and French sports press this morning. “The rocket takes off", summarised the newspaper L'Équipe as the Italian press could only concede PSG’s superiority. The Corriere dello Sport exclaims in front page: “MacumMbappé!”
Mad statistics for Haaland
Who can stop the Norvegian? Yesterday, by scoring twice, he already reached his 4th double of the season. At the age of 22, he has 25 goals in Europe's most prestigious competition. But his age is less important than the number of matches he has played to achieve this: 20. Where Cristiano Ronaldo needed 63 games, and Lionel Messi 42, like Kylian Mbappé. Surreal.
Is Hazard finally back in form?
Karim Benzema had to leave the pitch due to injury yesterday, letting his place to the former Blues legend Eden Hazard. And the Belgian played a solid game, confirmed by a late goal. What a pleasure to see him scoring!
Another great evening of Champion’s League
Liverpool will start their Champion’s League campaign with a very tough game against Napoli, playing away. While Tottenham is receiving an in-form Olympique de Marseille. Another great fixture tonight: Inter Milan playing at home against Bayern Munich. All those three games start at 20:00 p.m.
